Sasa Group’s contribution to fire safety and first aid

Fire safety and first aid in Rwanda, like in many countries, is crucial for protecting lives and property.

It’s important for individuals, communities, businesses, and government agencies to work together to prioritize fire safety and implement measures to prevent and respond to fires effectively.

Effective firefighting services equipped with trained personnel, appropriate firefighting equipment, and well-maintained fire trucks are necessary to respond promptly to fire emergencies.

Sasa Group Rwanda is a private fire brigade with aim of fire safety and fire fighting and provision of first aid.

Over the last nine years since it launched it’s operations, Sasa Group has engaged in providing fire safety services, fire fighting and providing trainings on fire safety to both individuals and institutions.

Joyce Manishimwe, director of operations in Sasa Group Rwanda says that “We mainly provide fire safety services. we sell and install fire fighting equipments, we do consultancy in fire safety and we also give trainings to entities and individuals.”

“Since 2020 when we started giving trainings, and we are already seeing an impact, where people are more conscious about fire safety, the safety measures in the buildings they mostly spend time. I think fire safety is a necessity to everyone, no matter where they are staying. Now in an era where most households are using gas or electricity for cooking, everyone should have fundamental skills about fire safety.” Joyce added.

In regards with fire fighting, Sasa Group sells fire extinguishers and refills them, smoke detectors and everything related to fire fire safety, which comes with basic trainings on how to operate them.

First aid

Safari Rutagengwa, founder and Managing Director at Sasa Group said “People are coming along, hotels, hospitals, private and national institutions, are no longer reluctant to fire safety and first aid.”

“You will find our equipped ambulances with medical professions at very big events, sports tournaments like BAL, Cricket tournaments, Tour du Rwanda, Handball tournaments, big meetings, music events. These private ambulances have really helped Rwandans and the Government as well.” Safari added.

Safari also extends gratitude to the Government which helps in the importation of ambulances.

Some 226 fire cases had been recorded across the country, between January and October 2023, the majority 146 being in Kigali.

The Eastern Province recorded 39 cases, 16 in the Western, 15 in the Northern and 10 in the Southern Province.
