Muslim women hold prayers for Samia Suluhu

AS the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end this week, Muslim women in Zanzibar have conducted special prayers for President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Hosted by the ‘Zanzibar Muslim Women Association, the event held is aimed at recognising Dr Samia’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s development in the country.

“We are delighted to meet and pray for our beloved Head of State. Mama Samia has been doing a lot for the country and women. She deserves regular prayers for God’s protection and to enable her to continue serving Tanzanians,” Ms Harusi Said Suleiman said.

Ms Suleiman who serves as the Zanzibar Minister of State, Office of the First VicePresident also conveyed greetings from President Samia, who due to her busy schedule could not attend the special prayers held here recently.

“Let us continue with this spirit of conducting prayers in recognition of the efforts being made by the government and leaders. Ramadan is an appropriate time to pray so that our country can continue to be stable,” Ms Suleiman said.

She explained that society is suffering from moral decay that leads to increased violations of human rights, particularly for children and women.

“In addressing these challenges, we should continue educating the public through various platforms including religious teachings to have responsible citizens.”

The Zanzibar Muslim Women’s Association formed a ‘prayers’ committee led by its national chairperson Hajjat Abla Sultan and the coordinator of the prayer, Ms Zahra Ali Hamad who explained that the prayers held for Samia is an expression of women’s appreciation to the Head of State.

“The only way to say thank you to Mama Samia for promoting women is to pray for her. A similar event was held in Pemba,” Ms Zahra said as she urged members of Zanzibar communities to maintain peace and stability.
