Everyone on Kivu Mantis Queen uBuranga declared safe

The management of Mantis Kivu Queen uBuranga, Rwanda’s first floating hotel, has explained an incident that happened on Monday, April 29, when the boat hit a rock, and declared everyone on board safe.

A related statement released Tuesday states: “We can confirm that the Kivu Queen uBuranga while sailing hit an unmarked rock in Lake Kivu on 29 April 2024. The situation was quickly brought under control and all guests and staff were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

“The safety and security of our guests and employees is always our top priority and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. The technical team are onboard the Kivu Queen uBuranga and is currently on route to the boat yard to access the damage and perform the necessary maintenance. The technical team is working diligently and will provide a technical update and ensure a prompt resumption of operations.”

Fully built in Rwanda, uBuranga operates on Lake Kivu, serving local and international clients. It is designed to provide passengers with a holiday including accommodation and entertainment prioritizing onboard amenities and comfort.
