In collaboration with the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) and Rwanda Police, a group of 45 thieves known as “Abameni” has been apprehended for stealing money using deceitful methods, primarily targeting people via Mobile Money.
The suspects operated in different districts of the country, using tactics such as sending text messages to people, asking them to transfer money to specific numbers, or instructing them to enter certain codes, which would result in changing the victim’s PIN or sending money unknowingly.
These individuals are currently being held at various RIB stations, while their case is being processed for submission to the Prosecution.
RIB urges Rwandans to be vigilant when receiving suspicious messages or calls asking for money transfers or requesting them to perform unclear actions.
Additionally, RIB warns those involved in such thefts that, together with other security agencies, they will continue to track them down to ensure they are punished according to the law.
