BAL 2024: Burundi’s “Dynamo Basketball Club” kicked out

Burundi’s Dynamo Basketball Club has been kicked out of the 2024 Basketball Africa League (BAL) in Pretoria due to not complying with rules and requirements governing jerseys and uniforms.

This was announced by BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall in a statement on X.

In the statement, Amadou said “Dynamo Basketball Club has further refused to comply with the Basketball Africa League’s rules and requirements governing jerseys and uniforms, thereby forfeiting today’s game against Petro de Luanda (Angola) and it’s participation in the 2024 BAL season.”

“Under FIBA rules, two forfeitures in the same tournament trigger the club’s automatic withdrawal.” the statement read.

Amadou Gallo Fall said “this is a very unfortunate situation for the players and fans, and we share the frustrations of everyone involved.”

This comes after Burundian champions Dynamo have forfeited Sunday’s game against Morocco’s FUS Rabat in the Basketball Africa League Kalahari Conference over refusal to comply with the tournament’s jersey requirements.

The Burundian side, which was participating in the competition for the first time since its inception in 2021, covered BAL sponsor’s “Visit Rwanda” logo on their uniforms with black tape during their opening game against host side Cape Town Tigers.

The Burundians started the Conference games perfectly with an 86-73 victory but failure to ‘comply with the league’s rules governing jersey and uniform requirements’ saw them forfeit their second game against FUS Rabat on Sunday.

All remaining Kalahari conference games will continue as scheduled.
