fter Miss Nshuti Muheto Divine was found guilty by the Kicukiro Primary Court of charges including driving under the influence and driving without a license, she was sentenced to a suspended three-month prison term within one year and a fine of 190,000 Rwandan Francs (RWF).
Miss Muheto was facing charges of driving under the influence, driving without a license, and fleeing after causing or being involved in an accident, all of which are provided for under various sections of the road traffic law.
These offenses occurred when she had an accident on the night of October 20, 2024, while driving under the influence, causing damage by hitting a tree and an electric pole.
The prosecution explained that after causing the accident, Miss Muheto fled, and they requested that she be sentenced to one year and eight months in prison if found guilty.
Miss Muheto defended herself by admitting to two of the charges but denied fleeing, stating that after the accident, she only moved about 100 meters away because she feared for her safety.
The court considered two main issues: whether she was guilty of the charges and the appropriate penalty.
