President William Ruto has nominated Prof. Kithure Kindiki to be the new Deputy President of Kenya after Rigathi Gachagua was removed from office by Parliament on October 17, 2024.
The announcement was made by Speaker Moses Wetangula on October 18, 2024, in a message to the National Assembly.
Speaker Wetangula said, “I have received a message from the president on the nomination of Professor Kithure Kindiki to fill the vacancy in the office of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
Gachagua was ousted from his position after Parliament voted on October 17, 2024, with a majority agreeing to remove him. This decision has caused a big change in the country’s politics.
Prof. Kindiki, who is now the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, has a strong background in politics, law, and education.
He used to be the Senate Majority Leader and represented Tharaka Nithi County in the Senate. Known for his skills in law and government, his nomination shows a new direction for President Ruto’s team.
Before Prof. Kindiki can become the Deputy President, his nomination needs to be reviewed and approved by the National Assembly, where he will explain his plans and goals for the role. If he is approved, he will work alongside President Ruto to help run the country’s political and administrative matters.
This change in leadership has led to much debate, with many people talking about what Kindiki’s appointment could mean for the future of Kenya’s government.
Some believe that choosing him is a smart move by President Ruto to bring stability and strengthen the government after a period of political challenges.
