Seized Goods Unveiled at the Rusumo Border

Today, the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), in collaboration with the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (@RIB_Rw) and the Rwanda National Police (@Rwandapolice), presented goods that were seized at the Rusumo border as they were being smuggled into the country.

The seized items include car spare parts, cosmetics, and shoes, which were expected to generate over 77 million Rwandan Francs in taxes.

BIZIMANA Maurice, who is under investigation for smuggling, along with his accomplice, used deceptive methods to hide and falsify customs declarations with the aim of bringing prohibited goods into the country and evading taxes.

According to Article 200 of the EAC Customs Management Act, anyone who knowingly conceals goods to bypass customs procedures commits an offense punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine equal to 50% of the value of the goods that should have been taxed.
