The President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has called for a swift investigation into the death of Ali Mohamed Kibao, a leader of the opposition party Chadema.
On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Kibao’s body was found in the Ununio Tegeta area of Dar es Salaam.
According to The Citizen, Kibao had been abducted on Friday, September 6, 2024, by individuals who dragged him out of his car as he was heading to the city of Tanga. It is reported that the abductors were armed and masked.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kibao had been severely beaten, and acid had been poured on his face.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan, through the social media platform X, requested a prompt investigation into Kibao’s death.
She stated, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the murder of CHADEMA leader Mr. Mohamed Ali Kibao. I offer my condolences to the leaders of the party’s family of Mr. Kibao, relatives, and friends.
I have instructed the investigative authorities to provide me with a detailed report on this horrific incident and others like it as soon as possible. Our country is democratic, and every citizen has the right to life. The government I lead does not tolerate such cruel acts.”
